of silence at 9:30 eastern. church bells will toll 26 times in their honor. poppy harlow is live in newtown. good morning, poppy. >> good morning, john. you know, at 9:30 a.m. eastern, many people will stop. we'll have a moment of silence in newtown in cities across america and around the world. the beautiful church bells will toll for all of the victims of the horrific shooting here. the governor here has asked for this to be a day of mourning, we can't understand what these families are going through, but we want to stand near them. president obama will also observe the moment of silence, and governors from at least 28 states have asked all of their residents to do the same. john, we'll bring that moment live on cnn, but the president has shifted to focus additionally on gun control in this country. that debate raging in the wake of this tragedy. the white house releasing a video from the president, just this morning. the president acknowledging that he is a supporter of the second amendment, the right to bear arms, saying that most gun owners are indeed responsible. but also making very
he said after the newtown massacre. he said if you live through a school shooting, you understand you don't really need these weapons. i don't know why a normal person would need an assault rifle. virginia tech had it's own police force. others did too. we are talking about what you said over and over. this is what the nra wants to do. given the history of there being armed -- all kinds of armed guards at schools where there were shootings, do you think it will really work? >> well, you know, when we call 911, we don't want to disarm security guard showing up to help us. now, there are many different things we can do. that perhaps is appropriate in some situations. i believe new york city schools, many of them, have security officers that are armed. that's not the whole picture. if we focus just on the firearm, we miss the opportunity to address the larger problems here with our mental health system, which is in shambles in this country, and what is really comes down to is money, why are we going to put our priorities, in the mill ear, overseas, or right here with our own people in am
